Associaçao Desportiva Cultural e Social de Carvalhais (Portugal), a nonprofit
sport association of the municipality of Carvalhais (Mirandela has a population of 23.000 inhabitants.
Carvalhais is one of the areas of the city with approximately 1.300 inhabitants). Founded in 1991, it currently
has a staff of 12 people and it aims to raise awareness of the importance of practicing sport in a regular basis
and oriented by professionals. In order to achieve this, it organizes sports, educational and cultural activities
with the support of the Junta de Freguesia and the local community school, with whom it coordinates its participation
in the project.
Since the collaboration with the Junta de Freguesia and with the local community school and club took place, it has formed a youth women’s basketball team that will participate in different activities included in this proposal, learning
from the experience of other partners. In the same way, its model of partnership between the association and
the local actors will be presented to the rest of the organizations participating in order to strengthen other
initiatives and to be strengthened by the good practices.
The association has experience participating in European projects in the following areas: encouraging girls’
participation in sports, fight against doping, injuries prevention, the celebration of European Week of Sport,
encouragement of volunteers and ethnic minorities in sport and management of sport facilities.
In EQUAL, they will be one of the leaders of the WP5: – Impact and dissemination, that has a main objective
to disseminate the information of the project to stakeholders and a broader audience with the intention to
influence society and decision-making processes in the long-term.
