Breaking the Basketball
Glass Ceiling

About the project

The European Commission highlights low female participation in sports, with only 21% of 18-year-old women active and high dropout rates at ages 14-16. Women also remain underrepresented in sports leadership and coaching roles.

The "Equal Play: Breaking Basketball's Glass Ceiling" (EQUAL) project aims to empower female basketball players aged 14-16 in five Mediterranean countries by reducing dropout rates, promoting awareness about sports’ value, and building skills for roles as players, coaches, or referees. Supported by a consortium, it includes activities to address gender inequality, adapt support systems, raise awareness, and facilitate dialogue with women who have advanced in sports careers.
